As a hunger and poverty eradicator, I was highly interested by this topic. I read and wrote many articles related to hunger and poverty issues in developing countries and, realized that there’s a kind of “ignorance” or misinformation about what is happening in these regions. I don’t reject the presence of extreme poverty in some isolated regions but not to the extent it is portrayed by different media or written in books. There are a lot of stereotypes resulting from believing what is written in NGOs and World Bank report! It is the danger of single story as Adichie pointed out. As an African writer, she realized that “The single story creates stereotypes, and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete. They make one story become the only story.”
I invite you to seek and develop tools of analysis to judge what you read in books, articles, reports, media… and always think twice before you believe them.
